Insecurity Threatens Future of Education in Nigeria — NUT Warns FG

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has raised alarm over worsening insecurity across the country, warning that repeated attacks on schools pose a serious threat to the future of education in Nigeria.

The National President of the NUT, Mr Audu Amba, expressed the concern while speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the 114th International Labour Conference (ILC) in Geneva.

Amba said teachers, students, and education stakeholders are increasingly worried about the rising cases of banditry, kidnapping, and violent attacks targeting schools in several parts of the country.

He noted that what initially appeared to be isolated incidents has now escalated into a growing national crisis, warning that it is undermining basic education and Nigeria’s human capital development.

Citing recent incidents in Kebbi and Niger States, Amba said schools have been attacked, leading to abductions and the killing of a teacher.
