The Labour Party has filed a suit against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at the Federal High Court in Abuja, challenging what it described as the wrongful exclusion of its candidate from the forthcoming Enugu North Senatorial District by-election scheduled for June 20, 2026.
National Publicity Secretary of the party, Ken Asogwa, disclosed in a statement on Monday that INEC allegedly denied the party access to its nomination portal despite compliance with all statutory requirements.
The by-election was necessitated by the death of Senator Okey Ezea, a Labour Party lawmaker representing Enugu North, who passed away on November 18, 2025.
According to Asogwa, the party duly notified INEC of its intention to conduct a primary election on May 25, 2026, and Simon Ejike Eze emerged as the consensus candidate.
However, efforts to upload his particulars before the June 2 deadline were unsuccessful.
