Peter Obi told me he Was More Popular Than Atiku – Dele Momodu

Veteran journalist and African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain Dele Momodu has disclosed that Peter Obi, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate for 2027, once rejected suggestions to align with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, asserting that he was more popular.  

Momodu made the revelation during an interview on Symfoni TV, recounting a personal conversation with Obi. He said he had urged Obi to consider partnering with Atiku, drawing parallels from politics in Ghana and the United States.

“Peter is the only politician who has visited my home in London, Ghana and Lagos,” Momodu stated. 

He advised Obi by citing examples such as John Mahama’s rise in Ghana after serving as vice president and Joe Biden’s path to the U.S. presidency despite being older than Barack Obama.  

  

According to Momodu, Obi pushed back, saying he had only served as a state governor but believed he was more popular than Atiku. “I swear to God.
