Recently rescued abductees in Borno State have shared harrowing details of their captivity in the Mandara mountains, a notorious terrorist stronghold in the state’s southern region.

According to reports, the victims were among 416 residents abducted during a March 4 attack on Ngoshe, Gwoza LGA.

On Sunday, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) announced the rescue of 360 captives from the enclave of Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS), following weeks of intelligence gathering and covert operations.

Starvation and Deaths in Captivity

The freed victims revealed they endured severe hunger, eating only once daily, often without soup. Six children, two boys and four girls reportedly died after falling ill in captivity.

“We ate only guinea corn once a day… sometimes without soup. We cooked the food ourselves,” said Halima Musa, one of the survivors.

Another abductee noted that terrorists appeared to operate a food distribution network, suggesting they had farms supplying their enclaves.
