The family of Deacon John Olaleye, one of two teachers killed by terrorists during the May 15, 2026 abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, has appealed to the Federal Government and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to help recover his remains for a dignified burial.

Olaleye’s elder brother and widow made the emotional plea days after the rescue of 39 pupils and five surviving teachers who had spent 56 days in captivity.

Terrorists attacked three schools in the area, killing one teacher on the spot and abducting seven others along with 39 pupils.

One abducted teacher, Michael Oyedokun, was later beheaded, with the act publicised in a viral video. Authorities later confirmed that Olaleye was also killed in captivity, bringing the death toll among the teachers to two.

The family said they only learned of Olaleye’s death through the state government’s announcement of the successful rescue operation.
