The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have announced plans to jointly monitor broadcast content during the 2027 general elections to curb unethical practices and promote responsible coverage.

NBC Director-General, Charles Ebuebu, disclosed the initiative in Abuja, explaining that the collaboration would leverage advanced technology to strengthen election monitoring.

“Gone are the days where agencies work in silos. When we coordinate, we’re able to monitor more effectively,” he said.

Ebuebu noted that the partnership would allow both agencies to address violations collectively, while also engaging other stakeholders such as the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).

Agreements with these bodies are expected to be signed before the elections. He revealed that NBC is upgrading its facilities with artificial intelligence tools to track thousands of broadcast and online platforms, adding that the commission can already monitor nearly 50 channels from its Abuja facility.
