The Rural Electrification Agency has performed the groundbreaking for a 1.5MW Interconnected Mini-Grid project in Pankshin, Plateau State, while also welcoming the appointment of former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, alongside Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and Ilyasu Makinta, as directors of the agency’s governing board.
The groundbreaking ceremony follows the recent commissioning of the 50kW Access to Markets and Agriculture Solar Mini-Grid in Namu Community, Plateau State, as well as a series of groundbreaking events recently held in Kogi (20MW), Kebbi (3.5MW), Adamawa (27MW) and Rivers states (12MW).
Addressing stakeholders during the ceremony in Plateau State, the Managing Director of the REA, Dr. Abba Aliyu, said the Pankshin facility forms part of a larger national rollout involving 48 interconnected mini-grids across the country.
He said the project is designed to improve power quality, reduce technical losses and provide reliable electricity to support agro-processing, healthcare and commercial enterprises.
