Producers oppose Oyo sachet water ban over investment risks

The Association of Table Water Producers in Oyo State on Tuesday urged the state House of Assembly to reconsider its proposed bill seeking to ban sachet water as part of efforts to phase out single-use plastics, saying foreign investors partnering with the association are threatening to leave the state.

The state Chairman of the association, Oladejo Adegboyega, made the appeal while addressing journalists at the Trade Fair Complex in Ibadan, the state capital.

He explained that the proposed legislation, if enacted in its present form, would cripple investments worth billions of naira and throw thousands of workers out of employment across the state.

Adegboyega said the legislation had already threatened investors’ confidence and could worsen unemployment while denying millions of residents access to affordable drinking water.
