The Federal Government has reduced the fees charged for textbook assessment and ranking in Nigeria, while also directing that publishers who paid the previous rates be refunded.

The development was announced by the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) as part of efforts to support publishers and other stakeholders ahead of the commencement of the National Textbook Ranking System.

This decision was disclosed in Abuja through a statement signed by the Executive Secretary of NERDC, Prof. Salisu Shehu.

According to the council, the assessment fee has been reduced from N2,000 to N1,500 per page. The ranking fee for textbooks has also been lowered from N1 million to N750,000 per title.

NERDC said the new charges take immediate effect and are expected to ease the financial burden on publishers and authors participating in the government’s textbook evaluation process.
