Former APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Timi Frank, has urged the Federal Government and the National Assembly to ensure greater transparency and accountability in the management of public funds amid controversy surrounding the proposed 2026 federal budget.
In a statement issued Wednesday, Frank said recent revelations of alleged inflated allocations, fictitious projects, and questionable expenditures have deepened public distrust in the budgeting process.
He described the administration as “one of the most troubling governments in Nigeria’s recent history,” stressing that stronger oversight is needed to restore confidence.
Frank called on the National Assembly to discharge its constitutional duty by scrutinising government spending rather than appearing overly accommodating to the executive.
He warned that perceptions of legislative weakness undermine democratic institutions and erode public trust.
He also appealed to Nigeria’s international development partners to continue supporting the country but to insist on strict safeguards ensuring that aid is transparently managed and reaches intended beneficiaries.
