American actress Skai Jackson has apologised following widespread backlash over comments she made suggesting that “mirrors are very expensive in Kenya, so a lot of people don’t know what they look like.”
The remarks sparked criticism from Kenyans and other Africans, many of whom accused the actress of reinforcing harmful stereotypes about the country and the continent.
In response to the backlash, Jackson clarified that her comments were intended to refer only to a small village she had visited and not to Kenya as a whole.
