The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has urged the Federal Government to impose the death penalty on anyone convicted of terrorism in Nigeria, insisting that executions should take place within seven days of judgment.

In a statement signed by its Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, the group described terrorists as “hardened and merciless criminals” who should not be kept in correctional facilities, warning that they could continue to plan attacks from prison.

MURIC’s demand followed Monday’s sentencing of two terrorists, Abubakar Abba and Mahmud Usman, to life imprisonment by Justice Emeka Nwite of the Abuja Federal High Court.

Akintola criticized the ruling as too lenient, stressing that only swift execution would serve as a deterrent.

“We therefore demand the death penalty for any terrorist found guilty of active participation in terror attacks,” Akintola declared, adding that the government must put legal instruments in place to ensure immediate enforcement.

The group emphasized that terrorism poses a grave
