With millions facing poor access to affordable fruits and vegetables across West Africa, the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition and partners, including ECOWAS, have launched a new innovation challenge to tap youth-led ideas.
The initiative, tagged ‘NourishNext West Africa 2026: Youth Agrifood Innovation Challenge ‘, will identify and support start-ups in Nigeria, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire and Benin. The innovators will receive mentorship, expert assessment, visibility and seed funding as they develop solutions to improve food and nutrition.
The programme will culminate in a regional finale in Dakar later this year, where selected finalists will pitch for seed funding.
Speaking on the launch, Michael Ojo, country director, GAIN Nigeria, said the challenge builds on GAIN’s work to strengthen nutritious food value chains and support small and medium enterprises.
