Trump appraisal: APC chieftain seeks deeper security reforms

An All Progressives Congress chieftain and governorship aspirant in Kwara State, Femi Sanni, has said United States President Donald Trump’s commendation of President Bola Tinubu’s anti-terrorism efforts underscores the need for Nigeria to deepen its security reforms.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Sanni described Trump’s remarks as an endorsement of the Tinubu administration’s evolving security strategy but said more reforms were required to tackle insecurity effectively.

He called for stronger collaboration between the Federal Government, state governments and international partners, arguing that security challenges require a coordinated response.

Sanni also renewed his call for constitutional amendments to allow the establishment of state police, saying subnational governments should be empowered to complement federal security agencies.

According to him, strengthening intelligence gathering, promoting community-based policing and improving cooperation among all levels of government are critical to defeating terrorism.
