The Supreme Court has affirmed the nomination of Governor Abiodun Oyebanji as the All Progressives Congress candidate for the June 20 governorship election in Ekiti State.
A five-member panel of the apex court, in a unanimous judgment delivered on Friday, dismissed an appeal filed by an aggrieved APC governorship aspirant, Mrs Abimbola Olawumi, describing it as unmeritorious, The Nations reports.
The judgment affirmed the June 18 decision of the Court of Appeal in Abuja, which had upheld Oyebanji’s candidacy.
Olawumi had challenged the process leading to Oyebanji’s nomination and asked the court to void the outcome of the APC governorship primary, alleging that she was prevented from participating as an aspirant.
Justice Mohammed Idris, who read the lead judgment, “faulted the competence of some applications filed by Olawumi on July 16 and 23 to regularise her notice of appeal and appellant’s brief of argument.”
