Nigeria recently secured clean energy investments worth $155m as the Rural Electrification Agency intensified efforts to position the country as Africa’s renewable energy hub and a centre for knowledge sharing across the continent.
The Managing Director of the REA, Abba Aliyu, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, saying the investments underscore growing international confidence in Nigeria’s off-grid electricity market.
According to him, the country recently secured an $80m debt facility dedicated to expanding off-grid solar home systems and business power solutions, while UK-backed clean energy company MOPO signed a $75m agreement with the REA to deploy a smart battery programme.
Aliyu said the investments followed reforms in the electricity sector that had made Nigeria increasingly attractive to global clean energy investors.
