The Lagos State Government on Friday launched the Lagos State Building Insurance Scheme to strengthen compliance with building insurance laws and reduce the financial impact of building collapses, with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu warning that safety must remain central to the state’s rapid urban development.
The scheme, known as LAGBIS, is an initiative of the Lagos State Building Control Agency in partnership with Veda Technology.
It is designed to provide insurance cover for eligible buildings while protecting property owners, tenants and construction workers against losses arising from building collapse.
Launching the initiative in Lagos, Sanwo-Olu, represented by his Deputy Chief of Staff, Sam Egube, described the scheme as the first of its kind in Nigeria and said it would transform the state’s building safety culture.
He said, “This is the first of such initiatives in Nigeria. It is a scheme that will change the building culture of our people.
