The Institute of Appraisers and Cost Engineers has called for stronger recognition and application of engineering valuation, cost engineering and engineering economy principles to improve project delivery, protect investments and support Nigeria’s economic development.
The call was made during the institute’s 2026 National Technical Conference held in Abuja recently, where Engr. Bello Kwalli was inaugurated as the new National Chairman of the Institute of Appraisers and Cost Engineers.
The conference, themed ‘Engineering Valuation, Cost Engineering and Engineering Economy Solutions in Emerging Economies,’ brought together engineers, government officials, industry stakeholders, academics and professionals in the built environment to examine how better cost management and valuation practices can address inefficiencies in infrastructure development.
In his acceptance speech after his inauguration, Kwalli said the institute would work towards increasing its visibility, strengthening partnerships and ensuring that valuation professionals play a greater role in Nigeria’s economic decision-making process.
