Ahead of the 2027 governorship election, the Labour Party in Nasarawa State has declared the incumbent lawmaker representing Karu/Keffi/Kokona federal constituency, Jonathan Gaza as its governorship candidate.
The party also affirmed former Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, as its candidate for the 2026 Nasarawa North Senatorial District by-election slated for June 20th, and the 2027 senatorial election in the zone.
The returning officer for the Labor Party primaries in Nasarawa State, Dr. Kalu Ekeh, announced the results at a special nomination congress held in Lafia, the state capital on Saturday.
I have noted that Gaza contested opposition for the governorship and was “duly certified and affirmed” by a majority of delegates in line with the Labor Party Constitution, the Electoral Act 2026, and the party’s 2026 Electoral Guidelines.
“Accordingly, having satisfied all constitutional and procedural requirements, Hon. Jonathan Gaza is hereby declared the winner and duly returned elected as the Labor Party governorship candidate for Nasarawa State,” Ekeh said.
He added that Gaza’s certificate of return would be presented at the party’s national office in Abuja next week.
Ekeh also announced that former minister Labaran Maku contested unopposed for the Nasarawa North senatorial seat and was similarly declared winner after meeting all constitutional and procedural requirements.
Our corresponding reports that Maku is also on the ballot for the same Nasarawa North seat in the upcoming senatorial by-election scheduled for June 20, 2026, following the demise of Senator Godiya Akwashiki.
