Satkhokai Chongloi pointed to a charred fragment of paper that survived the fire set by armed men at his Imphal Valley home in the northeastern Indian state of Manipur in May 2023. At first glance, it appeared to be nothing more than a blackened scrap. Upon closer inspection, a few faded letters revealed it to be his master’s degree in ministry.
