NIWA intensifies safety drive in Abuja

As the rainy season peaks with rising water levels and increased pollution, the National Inland Waterways Authority has moved to sensitise waterfront communities in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, on safety and environmental protection.

The NIWA Abuja Area/Liaison Office made this known on Wednesday during a Marine Safety and Environmental Protection Campaign in Abaji Area Council, according to a statement obtained by The PUNCH on Thursday.

“The exercise re-emphasised safe navigation practices and environmental stewardship for residents living on and around the waterways. It is in direct alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration and the provisions of federal law, which enshrine zero tolerance for waterway transportation accidents and infractions,” the statement read in part.

Speaking at the event, the Abuja Area Manager, Aisha Eri, thanked the host communities for their cooperation.
