The Anambra State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) on Monday took to the streets ro protest the delayed rescue of abducted students and teachers from schools in Oyo and Borno states.
The union members joined colleagues across the country in solidarity with teachers and students held captive by terrorist groups.
The protest followed a directive from the national leadership of the NUT, which ordered the immediate withdrawal of services by teachers in all primary and secondary schools in Oyo State.
According to the union, the strike took effect from Monday, June 1, 2026, until further notice.
The teachers marched from the Anambra State NUT secretariat in Awka to the Government House, carrying placards with various inscriptions.
They demanded the immediate, unconditional, and safe release of all abducted teachers and students across the nation.
