As environmental challenges continue to get world attention, Kebetkache Women Development and Resource Centre, a non-governmental organisation has advised Local Government Councils in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria, to take advantage of the opportunity available in the Green Climate Funding to apply for funds that could help in reducing environmental challenges in their localities.
They gave the advice at a two-day workshop tagged “Lawmaking, gender-inclusion and local governance, organised by the Centre, in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
Chinma George, while presenting a paper titled ‘Mainstreaming climate resilience into local governance and government service delivery’, charged local councils in the Niger Delta to apply for funds to tackle environmental challenges, noting that some local governments in other parts of Africa have started accessing the funds.

She explained that the objective of the presentation hinged on global reality
