The recent demand for credible 2027 general elections by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) has highlighted the critical role the Church and the State must play in synergizing towards holistic development of the country.
The CBCN led by its president and Archbishop of Kaduna, Matthew Man-Oso Ndagoso, met with president Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the State House recently to discuss state matters.
The Catholic bishops highlighted the growing voter disenchantment and warned that anything short of transparent, free, fair, and credible elections in 2027, supported by accessible voter cards and timely INEC funding, could lead to avoidable disaster.
The bishops also urged the president to do more in preserving democratic space and opposition. The CBCN expressed serious concern over the perceived constriction of the political space and fears of a one-party state, calling on President Tinubu to draw on his democratic legacy to ensure a level
