Liverpool defender, Ibrahima Konaté, has admitted that personal tragedies contributed to a dip in his form during the 2025–26 season, as he reflected on a difficult campaign both on and off the pitch.

The defender, who made 51 appearances, 49 of them starts, for Liverpool, was a regular figure in the side but struggled to consistently reproduce the high levels he had shown in previous seasons as the club finished fifth in the Premier League.

Konaté, who has earned 27 caps for the France national football team, remains part of Didier Deschamps’ squad as France prepare for the World Cup.

As reported by BBC Sport on Thursday, reflecting on the season, Konaté pointed to a series of personal losses that left him emotionally drained while still trying to maintain his performances at the highest level.

“There was never a moment when I felt like I was on the mend.
