Atiku faults FG over economy recovery claims

Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has argued that the current administration’s claims of economic recovery are contradicted by worsening living conditions and the declining state of Nigeria’s manufacturing sector.

In a statement issued on Monday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said the presidency was relying on “propaganda” and macroeconomic statistics that bear little resemblance to the realities confronting ordinary Nigerians.

The opposition leader said the closure of hundreds of manufacturing firms and the distress facing many others were clear evidence that the economy was deteriorating despite official claims of progress.

The statement partly read, “A government cannot claim its economic policies are working when the country’s industrial sector is actively shutting down. Nations do not build prosperity by celebrating macroeconomic statistics while their factories close their gates.”
