Taraba Gov Signs Executive Orders Against Political Thuggery, Drug Abuse

Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, on Sunday signed three executive orders targeting political thuggery, drug abuse, and illegal mining in the state.

The announcement was made in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Re-orientation, Zainab Jalingo.

Governor Kefas expressed concern over the rising cases of substance abuse, linking it to insecurity, family breakdown, and social instability.

“Drug abuse remains one of the greatest threats to the future of our young people. It fuels insecurity, destroys families, undermines productivity, and exposes communities to crime,” he said.

The executive order on drug abuse provides stronger legal backing for authorities to monitor, prevent, and prosecute offenders while supporting rehabilitation and youth development initiatives.

On political thuggery, Kefas stressed that with campaigns approaching, the state would not tolerate violence or intimidation. The order prohibits the recruitment, sponsorship, or use of thugs by individuals, groups, or political interests.
