The Federal Government has intensified efforts to tackle child malnutrition by launching the First 1,000 Days of Life Nutritional, Social and Behaviour Change Campaign, alongside a nationwide breastfeeding drive aimed at improving exclusive breastfeeding rates and reducing preventable child deaths.
The campaign was launched on Monday in Abuja during the 2026 World Breastfeeding Week celebration, where government officials, development partners, civil society organisations and health experts called for stronger policies, greater investments and wider community support to ensure more Nigerian children receive optimal nutrition during the critical first 1,000 days of life.
Representing the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs. Daju Kachollom, said the campaign underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to reversing Nigeria’s high burden of child malnutrition by promoting breastfeeding and improving maternal and child nutrition.
