The spokesperson for the Accord Party’s Governorship Campaign Council in Osun State, Pelumi Olajengbesi, has alleged that Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu directed the continued detention of party member and House of Representatives candidate Popoola Alaba, even after investigators reportedly found no evidence linking him to any crime.
Olajengbesi made the claim in an interview on ARISE News while addressing Alaba’s arrest amid rising political tensions ahead of the Osun State governorship election.
He dismissed allegations that Alaba was arrested with firearms, saying the claims were unfounded and embarrassing to the police. “Those allegations are embarrassing to the knowledge of the Nigerian Police.
The man that was arrested was arrested with nothing. He was arrested at the point where he was sensitising his supporters,” Olajengbesi stated.
He insisted that if any firearms or incriminating materials had been recovered, the police should have publicly displayed the evidence.
