Power outages have gripped parts of Lagos for more than a week, as reduced generation on Nigeria’s national grid and the tripping of two critical 330-kilovolt transmission lines choke off supply to Africa’s most populous city.
Ikeja Electric, the distribution company serving much of Lagos, said in a note Tuesday that the disruptions stem from weakened grid generation combined with the loss of two 330KV lines that feed power into its network. The utility named Ikeja and Oworoshoki among the areas hit hardest, though residents across several other districts have also reported extended blackouts.
The company said it is coordinating with other players in Nigeria’s power sector to bring supply back to normal, without giving a timeline for full restoration.
“We are working closely with the relevant stakeholders to restore normal supply as quickly as possible,” Ikeja Electric said, apologising for the disruption to households and businesses in affected areas.
