Delta sets sights on year-end power overhaul, marine economy boom

The Delta State Government has announced that it will establish the Delta State Electricity Regulatory Commission (DSERC) and the Rural Electrification Agency (DSREA) before the end of the year.

This initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to reform the state power sector, expand electricity access, and attract private investment. Government officials, regulators, and private sector stakeholders discussed these strategies during a panel session at the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit 2026.

Panelists disclosed that the government is collaborating with the Ministry of Energy and investors to operationalise both institutions before year-end. Furthermore, public consultations will precede the rollout of the state electricity framework, followed by an investor toolkit outlining regulatory requirements and opportunities.

Leveraging the marine economy

During the summit, Blue Economy discussant Ronke Kosoko urged the Delta State Government to prioritise the development of its inland waterways to drive investment, job creation, and long-term revenue.
