Middle Belt Forum (MBF) has thrown its weight behind Cardinal Onaiyekan’s and the Catholic Bishop’s Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), warning that Nigeria’s worsening poverty and persistent insecurity are eroding economic productivity, undermining livelihoods and threatening national stability.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by its National Spokesman, Luka Binniyat, the forum condemned what it described as unwarranted attacks on Cardinal Onaiyekan following his comments that President Bola Tinubu may not be receiving accurate information about the living conditions of ordinary Nigerians.
The statement followed the July 24 meeting between the CBCN and President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, during which the Catholic bishops reportedly expressed concern that the administration’s economic reforms had deepened poverty, increased hardship and failed to substantially improve security across the country. The President, however, maintained that his reforms were producing positive results.
