Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt in Byazhin, Kubwa, Bwari Area Council, Abuja, following a prolonged exchange of gunfire with armed bandits.
Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed in a statement that the attack occurred around 12:34 a.m. on Friday.
Acting on credible intelligence, officers from the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit were swiftly deployed to the scene, where they encountered suspects attempting to break into a residence.
Upon sighting the police team, the assailants opened fire, sparking a gun battle that lasted over thirty minutes.
The operatives repelled the attackers, forcing them to retreat into nearby bushes with gunshot wounds.
Recovered items from the scene included one AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and seven rounds of live ammunition.
The intended victims, identified as Mr. Samson and his wife, were rescued unharmed. They were later taken to General Hospital, Gwarinpa, for trauma-related care and placed under protective custody.
