Delta to establish electricity regulatory commission, electrification agency

… Panellist urges Delta to prioritise development of inland waterways,

Delta State Government has said it will establish the State’s Electricity Regulatory Commission (DSERC) and the Rural Electrification Agency (DSREA) before the end of this year.

This is part of ongoing efforts to reform the power sector, expand electricity access and attract private investment.

The announcement was made during a panel session at the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit 2026, where government officials, regulators and private sector stakeholders discussed strategies for developing a competitive electricity market in the state.

Panellists disclosed that the government is working with the Ministry of Energy and investors to ensure both institutions become operational before year-end.

They added that public consultations would be held before the rollout of Delta State’s electricity market framework, while an investor toolkit outlining regulatory requirements and investment opportunities would be released after the new regulatory board concludes stakeholder engagements.
