Former Chief Security Officer to late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, Maj. Hamza Al-Mustapha, has abandoned the faction of the Social Democratic Party led by the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Adewole Adebayo.
He has subsequently declared support for former National Chairman of the party, Shehu Gabam.
Until a few months ago, Al-Mustapha and former Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, were prominent allies of Adebayo and the Prof Sadiq Umar-led faction of the SDP.
However, while Maku has since defected to the Labour Party and obtained nomination forms to contest the Nasarawa North Senatorial District seat, Al-Mustapha has now pitched his tent with Gabam.
The retired Army Major was recently seen at the national convention organised by Gabam’s camp at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, a development that signalled his formal alignment with the embattled party leader.
