A new crisis has emerged within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State, as North-West party leaders accuse former governor Rabiu Kwankwaso of trying to dominate the party structure and marginalize members outside his Kwankwasiyya movement.
In a petition signed by North-West Vice Chairman Mohammed Serina and Kano State Chairman Hussaini Mariga, the leaders alleged that Kwankwaso, despite being welcomed into the party with significant influence, has sought total control of the Kano chapter.
They claimed tensions began during state congresses, where Kwankwaso allegedly pushed for full control.
A compromise was later reached, granting him 60 percent of the structure while the party retained 40 percent.
However, disputes resurfaced during the nomination process, with accusations that Kwankwaso withheld forms for elective offices from non-Kwankwasiyya members.
According to Serina, none of the 40 state assembly forms, 24 House of Representatives forms, three senatorial forms, or the governorship form was allocated to aspirants outside Kwankwaso’s loyalists.
