Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo, former senator for Ogun Central and daughter of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing what she described as persistent disrespect and rejection by the party’s leadership in Ogun State.
In a letter dated May 31 and addressed to APC State Chairman Chief Yemi Sanusi, Obasanjo criticized the consensus process that produced Senator Solomon Adeola as the party’s governorship candidate for 2027, calling it a violation of APC’s own guidelines.
She alleged that her supporters were violently barred from the venue where Adeola’s candidacy was announced and lamented that she was not consulted despite being a major contender.
“No one acknowledged my presence at the meeting, even though I had mobilized grassroots support across Ogun Central,” she wrote.
