The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has triggered a major crisis in Kano State after replacing several candidates submitted by the Kwankwasiyya faction, prompting strong indications that former governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso may exit the party.
According to a report by DailyPost, the NDC effected the changes citing a breach of a pre-existing power-sharing agreement between the original party structure and the Kwankwasiyya bloc.
A document signed by Kano State NDC Chairman, Hon. Hussaini Isah Mairiga, outlined the revisions to align with the agreed 60-40 formula for sharing elective tickets and party positions.
The document, which was copied to National Leader Senator Seriake Dickson, Kwankwasiyya leader Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and the NDC North-West Zonal Chairman, stressed that the original party structure would retain 40% while the Kwankwasiyya bloc gets 60%.
Revised Federal Constituency Candidates
The party approved the following candidates for Federal Constituencies under the new list:
Barrister Isma’il Idris Sani – Kumbotso
Nasiru Ali Ahmed – Nassarawa
Kabiru
