A former Labour Party (LP) presidential aspirant, Peter Agada, has defected to the Young Progressives Party (YPP) following his exclusion from the LP’s presidential primary.
Agada announced his move on Monday in Abuja, flanked by representatives of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress, members of his campaign council, and The Movement Nigeria, a political advocacy group backing his ambition.
He accused LP leaders of betrayal, alleging they encouraged him to pursue the ticket and contribute financially before abruptly disqualifying him.
According to Agada, he was screened on May 6, 2026, after the party’s national convention in Umuahia, Abia State, and was assured of his eligibility.
He claimed to have invested heavily in campaign structures and funded the convention, only to be informed just 24 hours before the primary that he was barred because the ticket had been zoned to the South.
Agada dismissed the zoning decision as unconstitutional and insisted his disqualification was unjust.
