FG Confirms Four Dead, 24 Injured in Warri–Itakpe Train Accident

The Federal Government has confirmed that four people died and 24 others sustained serious injuries in the Warri–Itakpe Train Service derailment near Agbor, Delta State.

In a statement issued Tuesday by the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) through the Ministry of Transportation, Permanent Secretary Funsho Adebiyi disclosed that preliminary findings showed four coaches capsized and one derailed during the incident.

The casualties included two adult females, one adult male, and an infant passenger. A total of 482 persons were on board comprising 442 passengers and 40 crew members, security personnel, and service providers.

Rescue operations, supported by the Delta State Government, NEMA, FRSC, the Police, Civil Defence, and other emergency responders, were completed by 6:30 p.m. Injured passengers were evacuated to medical facilities in Agbor.

Notable passengers included Senator Ede Dafinone (Delta Central) and former Delta SSG Patrick Ukah.

The ministry expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and assured that investigations into the cause
