Nigeria steps up Ebola defense with N10bn fund

…To intensify screening of passengers at airports

…Task force to be Chaired by Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President

President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of the Presidential Task Force on Ebola Virus Disease Preparedness and Emerging Public Health Threats. To anchor this national response, the President ordered the immediate release of N10 billion in emergency intervention funding.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, stated that the fund will strengthen the operational readiness of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC). The financial intervention is also designed to support critical national public health emergency response activities.

This initiative marks the federal government’s first major response to the current outbreak, which is caused by the Bundibugyo ebolavirus strain.
