Strike: ASUU issues two-week ultimatum to 20 varsities

 

 

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has issued a two-week ultimatum to 20 universities to address outstanding issues or risk industrial action, raising fresh concerns over a possible disruption to academic activities in public tertiary institutions.

ASUU’s National Executive Council (NEC) decided in a meeting held at the University of Abuja recently, where it authorised its branches in 20 universities to issue 14-day ultimatums to their respective authorities before embarking on strike over the non-implementation of the 2025 federal government-ASUU agreement.

According to the resolutions signed by Christopher Piwuna, the president of ASUU, the NEC expressed concern over what it described as the haphazard implementation of the 2025 FGN-ASUU agreement and the federal government’s failure to release subvention needed to fully implement the agreement.
