When conversations around clean energy arise, solar panels are often the first solution that comes to mind. But while solar has become Nigeria’s fastest growing renewable energy source, energy transition will require a broader mix of clean technologies to improve electricity access, strengthen energy security and meet Nigeria’s 2030 zero emissions target.
Africa’s most populous nation has abundant renewable resources, including water, wind, agricultural waste, geothermal heat and ocean energy, yet many remain largely untapped despite their potential to power homes, industries and businesses.
Harnessing the country’s vast hydropower, wind, biomass, geothermal and waste-to-energy potential could diversify electricity generation, attract investment, create jobs and improve energy security while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
