Beyond features: How great product management creates lasting customer value

The mistake I see too often

One of the biggest misconceptions I’ve encountered throughout my career in product management is the belief that more features automatically make a better product.

I’ve been in conversations where success was measured by how many features made it into the next release. Teams celebrated shipping faster, roadmaps became longer, and backlogs kept growing. On the surface, it looked like progress. But over time, I realised that releasing more features doesn’t necessarily create more value.

In fact, I’ve seen products become more complicated because every customer request was treated as something that needed to be built. The result was often a product with an impressive list of capabilities but a frustrating user experience. Customers weren’t asking for more buttons, more menus, or more options. They were looking for a product that solved their problems without making their lives more complicated.

That realisation changed the way
