Nigeria and Türkiye have renewed efforts to deepen bilateral defence-industrial cooperation, with both countries seeking to move beyond conventional equipment procurement to joint production, technology transfer, local manufacturing and long-term industrial partnerships.
Christopher Musa, Minister of Defence, stated this on Wednesday in Abuja at the 7th Nigeria-Türkiye Defence Industry Business Forum, where government officials, defence institutions, investors and industry leaders from both countries explored opportunities for strengthening Nigeria’s indigenous defence manufacturing capacity.
Musa said Nigeria was determined to transform its relationship with Türkiye from a predominantly buyer-seller arrangement into a balanced and mutually beneficial defence-industrial partnership capable of delivering sustainable economic and technological benefits.
He said the partnership should focus on joint production, local manufacturing, technology transfer, research and development, as well as maintenance, repair and overhaul capabilities.
