Nigeria’s energy sector pays some of the best salaries in the country, as base pay for strong upstream roles can run from N24 million to N40 million a year, before allowances that add 20 percent to 40 percent more for offshore or hardship postings, with bonuses worth another 10 percent to 30 percent, according to findings by BusinessDay.
Add housing, medical cover, pensions and life insurance, and the total package rivals anything else on offer in Nigeria’s labour market.
Yet job seekers aren’t lining up for it. That mismatch is the puzzle at the centre of Nigeria’s energy employment story right now.
