The Office of the Edo State First Lady, Edesili Okpebholo, has empowered women with micro-business grants to expand their businesses, strengthen household incomes and improve livelihoods across the state.
Okpebholo, coordinator of the office, said this on Monday in Benin at an empowerment programme themed, “Micro Business Empowerment: Empowering Women, Strengthening Families, Building a Prosperous Edo.”
She said the initiative was designed to provide women, particularly beneficiaries from Edo Central and Edo North, with capital to grow their businesses and create sustainable economic opportunities for their families.
According to her, many Edo women engaged in trading, agriculture, food processing, fashion, catering and other micro-enterprises require modest financial support to expand their operations and become more economically independent.
She urged beneficiaries to treat the grants as seed capital, advising them to invest in stock, equipment, improved services and other productive areas capable of growing their businesses.
