Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, Enugu State governor, has described history as a vital area of study capable of shaping future choices, public policies and the development of society.
Mbah, who spoke in Enugu during the presentation of a book titled ‘History and Lessons from the Nigerian Civil War’, written by Cyril Uchenna Anioke, PhD, and two other authors, Obioma Ikechi and James Egwuonwu said history provides essential knowledge and insight into the events that shaped Nigeria.
Represented at the event by Sam Ugwu, commissioner for Environment, the governor said history offers valuable information, indicators and research materials for understanding both the pre-colonial and post-colonial societies.
He stressed the need for history to be made compulsory in schools, describing it as a repository of knowledge from which societies could draw lessons for the future.
