African Women Innovators Use AI to Address Health and Agriculture Challenges

African women innovators are deploying artificial intelligence and smart technologies to tackle persistent health and agricultural challenges in the continent, to improve livelihood and strengthen food systems.

During a recent webinar hosted through Africa Science Dialogue, innovators from Uganda and Rwanda showcased locally developed solutions and highlighted the growing role of women in driving digital innovation in African health and Food systems.

In Uganda, diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis and cervical cancer continue to place pressure on the health system in many facilities with limited laboratory expertise where accurate diagnosis can take hours or longer.

To address this gap, Rose Nakasi, a researcher at the Makerere AI Health Lab and lecturer at Makerere University, is leading a team developing AI-powered tools to make disease diagnosis faster and more consistent.
