Gospel-juju singer, Adebisi Solomon, popularly known as Kaysliky, has opened up on the financial struggles he faced early in his career, the support of his band and the price of fame.
Recalling his early days in the industry, Kaysliky said he sometimes performed at lounges without receiving performance fees, relying instead on money sprayed by members of the audience.
He said, “Starting out was tough. There were times I’d perform at lounges that refused to pay performance fees, telling me to rely solely on money sprayed by the audience. Often, after playing all night, we wouldn’t even make N50,000. Paying for sound equipment and settling my band members felt almost impossible.”
He added that he faced rejection from some established colleagues, even after releasing his 2019 single, Appreciation.
Kaysliky, however, credited his band and close friends with helping him remain committed to his career through the difficult period.
